Another name for aloe vera is aloe medicine.  This succulent plant most likely originated from Northern Africa and traveled around following human trade because of the medicinal value of the plant and its value as a natural medication.  There are no naturally occurring aloe vera plants in the United States, though there are some forms of aloe that grow in the North African wilds. 

Aloe vera gel is used today as a body nutrient.  It is said that aloe vera can protect the body from harmful environmental factors and dryness.  As a healthy lotion alternative that has healing properties, aloe is unrivaled.
